Cataract Surgery Rochester NY

Cataracts and Surgery

Cataracts are among the most common causes of vision loss — but they don’t have to be permanent. Cataract surgery, also known as lens replacement, is the most frequently performed surgical procedure in the United States, helping millions of people each year restore clear, sharp vision. If cloudy vision is making it harder to read, drive at night, or enjoy your favorite activities, modern cataract surgery may be the solution you’ve been looking for.

At Cornerstone Eye Associates, our board-certified ophthalmologists bring decades of specialized experience to every cataract procedure. We are proud to perform surgery in our brand-new, state-of-the-art facility dedicated exclusively to ophthalmology — the only one of its kind in the Rochester area. Our patients trust us not just for our clinical expertise, but for the compassionate, personalized care they receive every step of the way, from their very first consultation through full recovery.

  • Outpatient procedure with no stitches

  • Comfortable with local anesthesia and IV sedation

  • Advanced lens options for clear vision at all distances

  • Performed in our exclusive, state-of-the-art ophthalmology surgery center — the only one in the area!

How Cataract Surgery is Performed

During cataract surgery, a small ultrasonic probe is inserted into the eye to break up and gently remove the cloudy lens through a tiny incision of just 2.8 mm or less. This minimally invasive technique, known as phacoemulsification, allows for a faster, more comfortable recovery with no stitches required. A combination of local anesthesia and IV sedation ensures the procedure is virtually painless. Once the natural lens is removed, an advanced intraocular lens (IOL) is implanted through the same small incision. Made of flexible material, the IOL unfolds inside the eye to restore clear, natural vision.

Step One

Through a micro-incision your surgeon will break up and gently remove the cloudy, cataract affected lens.

Step Two

A new flexible lens implant is gently inserted into the eye, to replace your natural cloudy lens.

Step Three

With the cataract removed, and the new lens in place, light can once again travel clearly to the back of your eye.

Less Dependence on Glasses. More Freedom to Enjoy Life.

Cataract surgery is an opportunity to think beyond clearer vision and explore greater freedom from glasses. Imagine reaching for your glasses less often as you enjoy your favorite hobbies, travel, and everyday moments.

Our Lifestyle Intraocular Lenses offer options tailored to your vision needs and the way you live. These include toric lenses to correct astigmatism, along with multifocal and extended depth of focus (EDOF) lenses that can reduce your dependence on glasses after surgery.

Your next chapter deserves a clear view. During your consultation, our surgeons will help you explore your options, understand the results you can expect, and choose a lens that fits your eyes, goals, and budget. If cataract surgery is on your horizon, now is the time to discover what’s possible.
