Eat your Fruits and Veggies
Eating a balanced diet is important to your health and well being, which includes your eyes! Recent studies have shown that pigments called cartenoids, found in certain fruits and vegetables, have key nutrients for the eyes. For example carrots, cantaloupe, sweet potato, and kale all have cartenoids which may help reduce the chance of having age-related macular degeneration (AMD). This disease is a deterioration or breakdown of the eye's macula which is the part of the retina that is responsible for your central vision, allowing you to see fine details clearly. Having AMD can lead to a decrease in sharp central vision and even blindness. Ask your primary Eye Doctor for additional information about this disease and treatment options. In summary, one thing to do at home is to add more fruits and vegetables on a daily basis to improve your eyes and overall health.
