Happy Independence Day!
Just as a friendly reminder, Cornerstone Eye Associates would like to remind you to protect and avoid trauma to the eyes while celebrating around fireworks. Did you know that thousands of people, all ages, suffer from firework related eye injuries every year? Fireworks can cause a wide range of injuries, including chemical burns, corneal abrasions, globe rupture and even retinal detachments. A few ways these injuries can be prevented are wearing protective eye wear (if close to firework/ sparkler) and respecting safety barriers when attending a firework show. Remember to leave the lighting of professional-grade fireworks to trained pyrotechnicians. If trauma to the eye does occur please seek immediate medical help. Do not try to solve the issue on your own. Have fun this Independence Day and make sure to stay safe!
