Post Lasik Dry Eye

Cornerstone Eye Associates provides your best option for LASIK in Rochester. We believe a well informed patient is a happy LASIK postoperative patient. This blog is intended to help you decide if LASIK at Cornerstone Eye Associates is right for you.

One of the most common questions we hear is “What about dryness after my LASIK procedure?”. Routinely artificial tears are used postoperatively for anywhere from 3 to 6 months. For patients who are identified as having a preexisting dry eye condition we prescribe an eye drop, Cyclosporine A 0.05%. We ask them to use the drop ,whose brand name is Restasis, twice a day for at least one month prior to their LASIK procedure.  Patients continue to use the drop during the postoperative period. This helps them achieve a better comfort level as well as helping them see clearer, faster.

In an article published by the Journal of Refractive Surgery it was concluded that: Cyclosporine A 0.05% ,in the form of Restasis, may be an effective treatment for reducing the time needed for visual recovery after LAISK. Use of cyclosporine A was associated with  overall better and faster recovery of uncorrected visual acuity.[J Refract Surg 2008;24:473-476.]
