Basic Care of Your Contact Lenses Part 2

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

Contact lenses require frequent cleaning and the specific products recommended for your lenses by your eye care professional need to be used. Any dirt and buildup left on the contact will impair your vision and also may cause irritation to the eye(s). Furthermore, take note that some lenses also require rubbing the lens to clean them and others merely need to be rinsed. Moreover, make sure that you rinse the contacts after you have cleaned them with a small amount of solution to remove any buildup prior to placing them in your contact lens case. Of course, if you have specific questions about your vision, eye care, contact lenses, or caring for contact lenses, it is always best to see your eye care professional. Basic Care of Your Contact Lenses Part 1

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

If you wear contact lenses, there are some basic steps that should be adhered to for proper contact lens care and to ensure that you keep your eyes in the best possible health. First, and foremost, wash your hands prior to insertion and also prior to removal of your lenses so there is no risk of transferring any germs onto the contact and then into your eye. Don’t use any scented or oily soaps when washing hands and make sure that you have not picked up any lint from a towel that may have been used. Of course, if you have specific questions about your vision, eye care, contact lenses, or caring for contact lenses, it is always best to see your eye care professional. Wearing Makeup with Contact Lenses

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

If you have a choice and, unless a lack of vision prohibits this, it is preferable to insert your contacts after applying makeup to avoid mascara flakes, loose powder, or other products getting on the lenses or between the contact lens and your eye. Also, as a contact lens wearer, it is important to give some thought to the application and ingredients of a particular makeup. A non-allergenic makeup that is labeled as safe for contact lens wearers is quite often the best. Moreover, eye makeup, in particular, should be of the waterproof type so that in the event your eyes tear (or if wetting drops are used) makeup would not end up in your eyes and on the contacts. The “Free Trial Pair of Contact Lenses” Coupon

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

Many lens manufacturers offer, through a variety of different media, a coupon for a pair of “free” trial contacts from an eye care professional. What generally isn’t obvious with these coupons is that in order to redeem them, a contact lens appointment involving professional fitting fees is needed. This is due to the fact that a contact lens is considered a medical device, so an eye exam that involves a contact lens fitting is necessary. Moreover, once the fitting is completed, if the patient is new to contact lens wear, an insertion and removal lesson may be warranted. In addition, after the fitting, a follow-up visit is scheduled to ensure that the lenses provide both comfort and the best visual accuity possible. Clear Care

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

Occasionally, some contact lens wearers can experience irritation, dryness and possibly an allergic reaction from their regular multi-purpose lens care solution. As an alternative, but without any of the additional chemicals or preservatives found in other contact lens cleaning solutions, our doctors oftentimes recommend a patient switch to using Clear Care. This change many times alleviates both dryness and irritation caused by the use of non-hydrogen peroxide care systems. Contact Lens Replacement Schedule

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

As a continuation of the previous blog entry, contact lens wearers also need to comply with the lens replacement schedule prescribed by their eye doctor in order to maintain the health of their eyes. The replacement schedule depends on the contact lens material and design, as well as lifestyle and the condition of the individual’s eyes. Conventional soft contacts can last up to a year; conventional rigid gas permeable (RGP) contact lenses can last even longer. Frequent or planned replacement contact lenses last one to several months. Disposable contacts last from one day (if worn as daily wear) to up to two weeks (if worn as extended wear). Contact Lens Wearing Schedule

Tuesday, July 6th, 2010

In order to maintain optimum ocular health, contact lens wearers need to comply with the wearing schedule prescribed by their eye doctor. Unless specifically prescribed, daily wear contact lenses should never be worn as extended wear. Daily wear contact lenses must be removed before sleep. Extended wear contacts can be worn continuously (day and night) for up to a certain number of days, usually seven to thirty. Extended wear contacts are made of special materials that allow more oxygen to reach your eye, which makes them safer for wear during sleep. The FDA determines the maximum amount of time that extended wear lenses can be worn before their removal. As previously stated, some brands are approved for up to seven days of continuous wear; others can be worn up to thirty days. Allergies and Contact Lenses

Tuesday, June 29th, 2010

Are you a current contact lens wearer suffering from seasonal allergies? Disposable daily contact lenses offer relief for allergy sufferers in that single use contacts can minimize the exposure to allergens and irritants that can accumulate with the repeated use of the same pair of lenses. Dailies can also provide convenience in that there are no solutions for storage or cleaning involved in their use, which can trigger allergy problems. For further information or to book a refitting appointment with one of our doctors, please call any of our three Rochester, NY Cornerstone Eye Associates locations in Gates (585-328-0153), Brighton (585-244-2200) or Irondeqouit (585-266-7880).
