Symptoms range from visual discomfort in mils cases, to severe blurring and distortion similar to a reflection in a fun-house mirror. Understanding Your Contact Lens Prescription #7 - Brand

Tuesday, January 4th, 2011

In the United States, contact lens prescriptions always indicate a specific brand. The law states that contact lens retailers must sell you that particular brand and no other. However, in the case of some “private-label” contact lenses that are sold only by eye care professionals, substitution of an equivalent national brand or private-label brand may be permitted. Understanding Your Contact Lens Prescription #3 - Cylinder

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010

A cylinder measurement is necessary if your lens corrects for astigmatism (the cornea has an oval, rather than a round shape). Measured in diopters (a unit for refractive power of lenses), the cylinder shows how much astigmatism you have. The negative sign means myopic astigmatism (inability of the eye to focus sharply on distant objects). A plus sign would mean hyperopic astigmatism (inability of the eye to focus sharply on nearby objects).
