Your Guide to Sport Sunglass Lens Tints Part 1

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

The best tint for sport sunglasses often depends on the environmental and lighting conditions you experience while participating in a particular sport. So, while this guide offers quick “tried-and-true” tint solutions recommended by many eyecare professionals, don’t be afraid to experiment with lens colors–sometimes the best tints for optimizing performance are a matter of personal preference. A yellow or orange tint tends to heighten contrast in overcast, hazy, low-light conditions outdoors or for indoor sports and filters blue light for sharper focus. Examples of sports in which these tints may help improve performance include: cycling, hunting, shooting, skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, indoor basketball, handball racquetball, and/or tennis. An amber, rose or red tint heightens contrast in partly cloudy and sunny conditions, but also causes significant color imbalances. Examples of sports in which these tints may help optimize performance include: cycling, fishing (amber lenses for sandy lake or stream beds), hunting, shooting, skiing, snowboarding, and/or water sports. Cornerstone Eye Associates Optical Studios have tint samples you can use to help you decide which color(s) are best for you. Try to evaluate the lenses in lighting conditions that match those you will experience most often during your sport. Moreover, if you participate in several sports or in a variety of lighting conditions, consider purchasing more than one pair of sport sunglasses, with different lens tints in each pair. Some sport sunglass frames have interchangeable lenses for a variety of lighting conditions. What are CL Protein Deposits?

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Protein deposits are common and natural deposits that form on contact lenses and are seen as a thin haze on the outer surface of the lens. These are unavoidable as they are formed out of the interaction between the protein in your tears and the contacts. Since protein deposits are difficult to remove, their removal is an important part of the CL cleaning process. If deposits are a problem, consult your eye doctor for a protein removal regimen. Cleaning and disinfecting your contact lenses is important not only for good vision but also for good eye health. Transitions Lenses for Kids

Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010

Parents understand that they need to take precautions to protect their children’s skin from too much sun exposure but many parents may not be aware of the need to also protect their children’s eyes from the sun’s potentially harmful glare and UV rays. The basic truth is that children are at more risk of experiencing the eye-damaging effects of UV exposure than adults for a number of reasons. For example: children are generally outdoors more than adults and, on average, they can receive three times the annual UV exposure as an adult; also the lens of an eye of a child below age ten allows more than six times the amount of ultraviolet radiation to penetrate than an adult’s eye. These are important examples as to why taking care of children’s eyes is so important. Understanding the best ways to do that–as well as protecting them early–can preserve a child’s quality and health of sight for the present and the future. Transitions lenses are one of the most convenient ways to prvide automatic, everyday protection for children who wear prescription eyeglasses. Transitions lenses block 100% of UV radiation and reduce glare, which also serves to minimize eye strain and fatigue. Yet Even More Common Worries for Potential and First-Time CL Wearers

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Yet another common worry is that the lens won’t stick in place on the eye. This is usually because the lens is attracted to the wettest surface, and the finger being used for insertion is wetter than the surface of the eye. To remedy this, dry off the finger and let the lens air-dry for a few seconds before insertion. Another common worry is the fear that the contact lens will be put on inside-out. The good thing about GP contact lenses is that they can’t flip inside-out. But if it’s a soft contact lens, look at it closely. If the edge is flared out, it’s probably inside-out. Additionally, some soft lenses have manufacturers’ marks on them to help you know if they’re inside-out. Moreover, one last common worry is the fear that an eye problem may develop by repeatedly touching the lens. In order to prevent this from occurring always make sure to wash your hands first prior to handling your contact lenses. Popular Misconceptions about Sunglasses #9

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

Another common misconception regarding sunglasses is that you don’t need them on a cloudy day. This is also false. UV rays are just as potent on a cloudy day as they are on a clear day, and proper eye and skin protection is always needed.
